Winning The Battles of Life

We need to learn to respond based on what we know, NOT what we feel. Many times life will give us situations that make us feel insecure, afraid, anxious. We feel like we don’t want to bother with the task at hand. We rather step into someone else’s shoes until our situation is complete. More than likely we know exactly what must be done to get through a situation successfully, so trust what you know and succeed rather than follow how you feel and miss a significate opportunity.

When you do not know how your situation will work out you know WHO is going to figure it out. God said Be still and know that I am God. God is in all control. Sometimes God won’t intervene because He wants to build our strength, to test our resolve, so we do not forget that God is good all the time, even when we have bad times. It may sound contradicting by saying that God is in all control, but sometimes He doesn’t intervene. What I mean by God is in all control is that there is no greater power than God. No living being can overpower God.

When I say that God doesn’t always intervene I mean that sometimes situations feel like when you’re praying to God, God isn’t listening. It doesn’t mean that He didn’t hear you and it don’t mean that He isn’t present in your situation. It means that God is letting life run its course, He is letting you grow and mature rather than taking the wheel because you feel like you can’t do something when God knows you can. Basically, God may not come when you want Him but He is always on time.

When I was going through Warrior Leader Course, a military school that is required for all junior soldiers to be eligible for promotion to Sergeant, I had a lot of anxiety and worry. I worried that if I failed that I would be shamed upon my peers and superiors and that no one would think I have potential to be a future leader. I prayed everyday that God led me through each task, and I graduated from the course. My girlfriend recently took a physical fitness test, and she said that the only way she passed was that she prayed the whole time.

Sometimes God does seem like He is  right on time and that we never had a reason to worry about our situation. But, what about the times when life seems unfair and confusing? The recent Oregon college shooting, eight students died, and the news said that the gunman asked individuals if they were Christians. If the students professed they were Christians they were shot in the head. We can look at this situation as God calling His children home, or maybe this wasn’t willed by God. Maybe it was an unfortunate act from a human being choosing to be evil.

I still have questions about the meaning of free will. Whether everything is willed by God, or do bad things happen just because people choose to be evil. Are all good things willed by God, or does fortunes just come by people’s hard work and luck? I don’t know all the answers to life’s cirsumstances. I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to figure out the answers. In the meantime all I know is that prayer works, control what I can, and let God handle what I can’t.
