I was in a Facebook discussion about Kyrie Irving missing NBA games because he refuses to get vaccinated, and somebody commented that “Kyrie doesn’t follow the sheep.”
I replied, “So are people sheep because they got vaccinated?”
Some people got into an uproar that they’re not following me down a rabbit hole. The funny thing is the rabbit hole was already dug by bringing up the vaccination. The COVID-19 vaccination is a political and controversial topic. It’s nearly impossible to have a discussion about it without peoples’ political views coming to light.
The fact is his comment had an undertone that vaccinated people are sheep and I called him out on it. He said that he meant that Kyrie has always been hardheaded. But he could have just said that Kyrie has always been hardheaded and that would have been a direct comment to what he meant.
When you include the words “sheep” and “vaccine” in the same sentence then it is always a political statement. Being hardheaded and a sheep are not the same thing. When referring humans to sheep you are saying that these people don’t have the brain capacity to think for themselves. You are belittling their human intelligence that is unmatched to any animal.
Even when we follow ideas to fit in or out of fear of being different, that choice still takes more brain power than a sheep’s brain compacity. If we want to argue that Kyrie doesn’t follow the sheep by refusing vaccination, then we can argue that he is just following the sheep that are refusing the vaccination.
There is nothing new that anyone can do. There is no absolute individual thought. Kyrie simply chooses to believe along with all the people who have reasons to not trust the vaccination. Kyrie refusing to get vaccinated doesn’t make him different, a leader, or a critical thinker. It doesn’t make him any better or smarter than those who got vaccinated.
Regardless of Kyrie’s decision to not get vaccinated, all he is doing is putting his team at risk of missing out on the Playoffs and a possible NBA Championship, which in my opinion makes you dumber than a sheep.
