What If Evil Wins?

I watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 with my wife last night. The scene when Lord Voldemort brought Harry’s supposedly dead body back to Hogwarts and Lord Voldemort tried to convince everyone to bow to him or die. I asked my wife what would Lord Voldemort do if everyone bowed to him and he won?

My wife said, “Be happy I guess.”

And that brought me to the question, what if evil wins? So often in entertainment, and in real life we see the good win. In some cases we get to see evil win for a moment like in The Lion King when Scar had Mufasa killed. The only thing Scar did at Pride Rock was eat all the animals until there was nothing left to kill.

In Marvel’s Avengers: End Game, we saw Thanos living alone in some field picking crops.

In entertainment and in real life, evil has a purpose. The desires are just evil to someone else. Like Thanos wanted to kill half the world’s population because he believed the massive population would inevitably use up the universe’s entire supply of resources.

Thanos didn’t kill just for the act of killing. He killed for a greater purpose. Pretty much what war is, killing for a greater purpose. The Avengers felt like Thanos’ desire was evil and there was no way for The Avengers and Thanos to compromise with one another. When the only way to stop someone from fulfilling their desires is to kill them or lock them up then that makes their desires evil to the opposing party.

What if Hitler successfully killed all the Jews until there was no living Jew left? Would he find another race to kill? Would he just go about living his life with millions of deaths on his conscience?

What about Satan. The ultimate evil being in the real world. The influencer of all evil beings who ever lived. What is Satan’s goal actually? I know the Bible says that Satan came to steal, kill, and destroy, but that’s vague. Like how much stealing, killing, and destroying?

My pastor said that if Satan could have his way we’d all be dead by nightfall. If it’s Satan’s goal to destroy all of God’s creation, especially God’s most prized creation, his humans, then what would Satan do after that? If Satan wanted to kill all of God’s creations then why wouldn’t he kill the fallen angels? Why not kill himself?

Satan fell from Heaven because he wanted to be worshipped. That can answer why Satan didn’t destroy the fallen angels because Satan needs them to fulfill his desire to be worshipped.

That’s why the Bible calls all sin evil. You may not be doing blood rituals and directly worshipping Satan, but sin itself is neglecting worship to God. Satan doesn’t just want to be worshipped, he wants all of God’s worship too.

People consider murderers, rapist, serial liars, and so on as evil. People like that will just ruin their lives and the lives of others. In the spiritual realm, evil is simply living without God. Afterall, that’s the only thing that caused Satan to fall.

The Civil War was inevitable. White people couldn’t have imagined that slavery would exist until the day Jesus returns. No matter how cruel slave masters were they couldn’t beat and starve all their slaves to death.

If Black people just accepted slavery and never fought back, I think white people would “lose respect” for slaves accepting a cruel life. White people knew deep down inside their evil soul that Black people were created equal and had the means to defend themselves. Slave rebellions happened many times.

Lets say that racist people get what they want and all Black people cease to exist in America. Where would all that hateful energy go? Would that hateful energy cease to exist, or would it find another source? It has to be exerted somewhere like their opposing political party, or opposing sexual preference. White Republicans who hate Democrats and White Democrats who hate Republicans simply have hateful energy and they feel like in today’s age it’s too evil and counterproductive to exert that energy directly toward another race.

Whether you believe in Heaven or not there is no reason to be evil because good always wins. Hitler succeeded in killing millions of Jews but he couldn’t kill them all. And millions of Jews have been born since the Central Powers lost in World War II.

There are numerous stories in the Bible of good triumphing over evil. Events like Moses parting the Red Sea to bring Israelites to the promise land, and David killing a giant with a slingshot.

I can’t imagine what it would look like for evil to win because the Bible says in Revelations 20 7-10 that Satan and his angels will be sent to the Lake of Fire for eternity.

Since we know that source of all evil will ultimately be defeated, why do people still desire to be evil?
