Everyday when I wake up for work I wake up in a bad mood because I dread going to work. When I’m in my car driving to work, during lunch, and on my way home I just find so many things to complain about my job. I realized that doing all that complaining just ruined my mood for the day and made me really emotional. To combat that I decided that every time I think of something to complain about I will think of something to be thankful for. Because it’s easy for us to say that there’s always something going wrong. But there’s always something to be thankful for and there’s much more to be thankful for than things to complain about.
When we think of all the things we can be thankful for, it makes the things we can complain about look like not such a big deal anymore. When I was in my car complaining I just stopped and started thanking God for what he has done for me. Life can always be more difficult than whatever you’re going through.
I recognize that’s easier said than done for some people. I just read on the news that a father of one of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims committed suicide. I imagine that it’s hard to have the motto that life can always be worse when you have to suffer the feelings of your child being violently murdered. Especially, in America, there’s not much that we can imagine being worse than that.
That’s why whatever you’re going through in life if the problem won’t matter much to you in the next five minutes then don’t spend more than five minutes being mad about it. Learn to let things go and move on.
