Gabe Poirot Didn’t See Jesus. He Dreamed About It.

Think about a time when an encounter with someone transformed your life. It could have been a conversation with the most attractive person you have ever seen. It could have been just sitting in a room with a VIP who can give you opportunities.

Gabe Poirot spent 18 days in a coma after suffering a horrific accident by flipping backward on an electric skateboard going 30 mph without a helmet. During these 18 days, he claims that he met Jesus. But what makes me question his encounter is what he said during a Newsmax interview.

When Poirot was asked what Jesus looked like, he said, “Sorry, Leftist, Jesus doesn’t have his nails painted, and he doesn’t have his hair in a bow tie. He’s not completely caucasian. He was darker skinned–a little bit.”

I can’t imagine seeing the resurrected Jesus and having the mindset to use that encounter to attack political views and to make white people like himself feel comfortable by saying he was just a little bit dark skinned. As if he’s trying to say, don’t worry folks, Jesus wasn’t a Black man.

That’s why I don’t think Poirot saw Jesus. I believe he was just dreaming about seeing Jesus. Because Poirot doesn’t seem to be transformed. In Christianity, we imagine seeing Jesus as the best, indescribable experience ever. We imagine falling to our knees and crying over our unworthiness to be in His presence.

Imagine seeing Michael Jackson live in concert. That had to be one of the most humbling experiences in their lives. I imagine that experience being 10x greater in the presence of Jesus.

And we know that being in the presence of Jesus is life transforming because the Bible describes the Apostle Paul going from a persecutor of Christians to a Christian and becoming responsible for building the early churches, all because of his encounter with the resurrected Jesus.

Apostle Paul did not use his encounter to attack Gentiles or to force Gentiles to bend to Jewish law. That’s why I strongly doubt that Poirot actually saw the resurrected Jesus. He just had a vivid dream.

Another example is from my Pastor at Horizon Christian Church in Odenton, MD. This is Pastor Styles testimony to how he gave his life to Christ. Pastor Styles was on active duty in the Army and he was sleeping with different women and constantly drinking and just living a party lifestyle. One day, he just felt sick and tired of the way he was living and while he was standing outside of his barracks, he said out loud, “Jesus, if you’re real, reveal yourself to me.” And at that moment, he said that he felt the Holy Spirit come upon him and he wept. Ever since that day, he has grown in his relationship with Jesus.

I believe his testimony because of the transformation.

It’s like being in the woods and someone tells you they were chased by a bear, but there’s no fear in their eyes, and they’re not out of breath; it makes you wonder. Where’s the bear? Why don’t you look like you were running as hard as you could? Because bears can run up to 30 mph. If it was chasing you, then it either quit as soon as it started, or it never happened.

So when someone says that they saw the face of Jesus. That they saw heaven. Yet they’re the same person they were before the encounter, it makes you wonder. Maybe you just had a vivid dream.
