Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man – Review

Wake Up Dead Man is the latest and best in the Knives Out series.

Sometimes movie sequels are not as entertaining as the first or second film. This can be due to a less compelling storyline or to a key person in the cast not being included (looking at you, House of Cards).

But Knives Out keeps getting better, and the third installment, Wake Up Dead Man, is the best in the series, mostly because of the humor and relatability to the current times in America.

I had to rewatch the first Knives Out to understand what was going on, and the lack of humor dried my attention span. The second Knives Out: The Glass Onion had the best mystery because the big reveal really threw me for a loop. But Wake Up Dead Man has the best humor.

There really isn’t a big reveal; the title itself is a big hint that whoever dies isn’t really dead. But what I loved about this sequel is that who killed whom isn’t what I cared about most. I cared more about the protagonist and how his character progressed. Because the person who gets killed is not someone you care about anyway.

While the script takes a jab at Christianity, it also reinforces what Christianity is all about. One quote that stuck with me, and I’m paraphrasing here: “My purpose isn’t to fight the wicked and bring them to justice, but to serve the wicked and bring them to Jesus.” I’m sure that’s been said before but it’s good to reinforce it, as society is using Christianity to attack people who don’t align with their political values.

While this movie is deserving of a theater release, I’m glad I got to watch it immediately.
