I’ll tell you, sometimes I question my attention span because of my lack of desire to finish a novel or to commit to a movie. And then I find a book I can’t put down like the recently published “Miracles and Wonder” by Elaine Pagels, and this movie, Magazine Dreams. If you think two hours is a long time for a film about a bodybuilder, then I’d tell you that it’s a lot more than just bodybuilding. What makes the movie great is that it’s not about the plot; it’s about the character. There’s no fluff of a bunch of training scenes. There’s no conflict between other bodybuilders.
This movie’s not just about chasing a pro card—it’s a raw look at how twisted motives can leave you empty, how being cut off from people screws with your mind, and how old wounds keep bleeding into everything. It’s intense, it’s real, and it hits you hard. I walked away shook, but damn, it’s the kind of story that sticks with you.
