I got into reading novels from my dad. He had the whole Left Behind series which I never got into, but he also had a lot of Ted Dekker novels that I found interest in. I was intrigued by a Christian author who didn’t write the typical Christian books you find in Christian bookstores. Dekker wrote fantasy with dark themes but had an aspect of faith in them. He hasn’t written an adult novel in over a decade though.
I started buying a lot of books to read in college. I had a lot of time on my hands being an English major.
When I moved out of my parents house after I joined the Army, they sold my bin of books. I was pretty upset about that. Especially since most of those books were actually read. These days with a job, marriage, and a toddler, I buy books that I’m interested in buy I finish about three books a year.
I know there are some books I own that I’ll never get around to reading. It’ll sit on myself unless I resale it. But books are not just for reading. Books are a display of your personality and interests.
I place specific books in front to feature on my bookshelf. Some books make statements like the 1619 Project shows people that I’m interested in African American history. Double or Nothing by Kim Sherwood shows that I’m interested in James Bond and action novels.
Lately, I’ve read more nonfiction books than fiction. Maybe thats because I’m going on 34 years old and trying to figure out life through people who experienced a lot more before me.
Lastly, what makes my books special is that I have so many if I lost them all I wouldn’t even remember half of the books that I own.
