Who Needs a $3K 13 inch iPhone?

The only reason I'd upgrade to this iPad is if I had money to burn and wanted the best possible movie experience. But even then, you'd also need the $500 AirPod Max or two Home Pods for $600 to get the best sound.

Let’s get real: the iPad is basically just a bigger iPhone with a few exclusive things it can do. I mostly use my iPad for watching movies and playing games. Even when I try to write on it, I’d rather use my laptop because the app crashes when I try to edit a big document on Google Docs. And get this—I’m using the iPad Pro, which is supposed to be the best one!

Now, let’s talk about the price. If I add the 2TB iPad Pro, the Nano Tecture Glass, and the needed keyboard to my cart, it comes out to a whopping $2,991. And if I want the Apple Pencil Pro too, then I’m looking at over $3K for just a tablet and a few extras. Even if I trade in my old iPad, it’s still over $1K. That’s crazy for a tablet that’s good for movies and stuff, but not great for much else compared to the Macbook Pro. Sure I can edit videos and create music, but thats more so a good option if you’re mobile and want to minimize weight and taking up space. Graphic artist get the most out of an iPad since you can’t use a pencil on the Macbooks.

The only reason I’d upgrade to this iPad is if I had money to burn and wanted the best possible movie experience. But even then, you’d also need the $500 AirPod Max or two Home Pods for $600 to get the best sound. There’s no sense in watching movies in OLED without Dolby Atmos sound.

I have the 2022 12.9 iPad Pro with the mini LED display, and the blacks look great. I can’t justify upgrading to OLED just for a 13-inch screen. But if the iPad came in a 16-inch display, I’d consider it because that would make a big difference when watching movies.

I was also hoping for an upgrade to the iPad mini, which hasn’t been updated since 2021. It’s still expensive at $550 for only 256GB.

For artists, the Pencil Pro sounds cool, but it only works with the 2024 iPads. That makes it seem like Apple is just trying to force people to buy a new iPad to upgrade their pencil.

If you have a non-pro iPad, you probably don’t need the extra power of the latest iPad Pro. And if you already have the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, I’d say skip this generation. If you’re looking to buy your first iPad and are thinking about a Pro, the 12.9 Pro at a discounted price is a better deal than the 13-inch model. Even though it has the M4 chip, it still runs on iOS so there is only so much power you can do with a mobile chipset. I hope Apple realizes that they won’t see a lot of iPad sales until they upgrade the iPad mini.
